Chatting With Maria Vermisgolou

 Hey there!

I had the honour of talking to the phenomenal author -Maria Vermisoglou!

It was so much fun!! I got to know so much about her and if you are her reader, I know you want to more about her as well. Well then, scroll down to read the chat!

1.   What has influenced you the most as a writer?

Books and travels. They inspire me a lot and an idea can pop because of a statue (it has happened) or because of a book. Great sources of inspiration for all artists.

2.   Do you like audiobooks, physical books, or e-books better? Why?

I love physical books because I can smell them, feel them, touch the depths of their souls. Also, they never run out of battery! I haven’t tried audiobooks but I don’t pay attention to sound much. If I listen to music, I get absorbed by what I do, for example, writing, and suddenly I discover I am 50 songs away. I may download ebooks out of necessity because my bookcases have no room, but I prefer physical copies.

3.   What behind-the-scenes tidbit in your life would probably surprise your readers the most?

I am Greek. Born and raised in the city and English is my third language. Probably. I really wish I could have written the stories in Greek and made my life easier, but my characters have other ideas and they speak English for some reason, but what did you expect from witches who are a bit crazy? Don’t tell them I said that! However, I am not sorry for the struggles I faced because it gave me the opportunity to meet wonderful people and I wouldn’t change it for all the fairy dust in the world!

4.    What is the funniest typo you’ve ever written?

“These people communicate on a deeper lever than any of us understand...” Must be one smart lever if it can do that. Ha, ha.

5.    What is your favourite time to write, and why?

Afternoon and night because everyone’s asleep and there are no distractions.

6. How do you think being a writer has helped you as a person? It opened my eyes to the world behind the pages. I know how much time, sweat and strength is behind a book. It’s not just a word on a piece of paper. Writing helped me connect with people who understand me and I made friends among authors and readers alike, even if I didn’t think was possible. As a writer, I don’t know where the story will go since I listen to the characters, but I find it absolutely amazing!

7.   What is your favourite word, and why?

I don’t have one. Each word has its own colour, tune and meaning, which triggers different feelings and often, memories for us. I can tell you though a word I hate: Ignite. If I have to use a sentence with fire, I use a synonym. I absolutely detest and hate it.

8.    If you didn’t write, what would you do for work? I’m a part-time writer and full-time librarian. Because I love books so much, I want to open all doors to their worlds.

9.    Do you Google yourself? Nope.

I did that once, but there’s nothing new to learn.

10. What are your favourite novels?

It’s hard to say now. I used to like the novels that inspired my writing, but that’s no longer the case. Anything that contains witches saving the world is amazing for me. Especially if they have cats with a funny character.

11. What book are you currently reading?

I just finished The Alice Network.

12. If you could be a supernatural creature, which one would it be?

That’s a trick question, right? A witch, duh!

13. If you could time travel, would you like to visit the past or future?

The past.

14. If you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?

Weird, shy, bookworm.

15. Any message you would like to give to your readers?

Thank you for your support. I couldn’t have done without you. Your messages make me smile!
